Chicken on the Bayou - Henderson, LA

--- Chicken on the Bayou leaves us with mixed feelings.  The place reeks of being a cheesy tourist trap.  BUT the cracklin are actually cooked to order!  . . . . .or at least finished off when you order them.  So, they come out piping hot every time.  The manager will even warn you not to burn yourself on them.  AND, the seasoning blend is potent and tremendously flavorful.
Delicious crimson spiked cracklin from an otherwise underwhelming place.


Named as an homage--of sorts--to a George Rodrigue painting by the same name.

True, we wish there were more meat and we wish the place wasn't so cheesy, but as a cracklin stop (but NOT a boudin stop . . . . Stay away from the boudin!) they're doing something worthwhile. --

  1. I travel all over the great state of Louisiana all the time, from New Orleans to West Monroe. I love cracklings! I love stopping at different places all over the state just for cracklings and from time to time I have had some that were not so good.
    A few minutes ago I stopped at THIS PLACE HERE AND I GOT THE VERY WORST CRACKLINGS EVER! THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE, THE PRICES WERE OUTRAGEOUS AND THERE'S NOT EVEN A WORD TO DESCRIBE HOW DISGUSTING THE 'SO CALLED' CRACKLINGS!
    I WOULDN'T FEED THEM TO MY WORST ENEMY!
    AND I AM TURNING MY CAR AROUND AND TAKING THIS GOD AWFUL CRAP TO THEM... I DON'T WANT MY MONEY BACK BUT I DO WANT THESE PEOPLE TO KNOW I INTEND TO TELL EVERYONE I KNOW TRAVELING THROUGH HENDERSON NOT TO WASTE TIME OR MONEY AT THIS PLACE!

    SO DISGUSTED AND DISAPPOINTED .... UGH!
